Welcome, Moon Baby!
In this post we're going to explore grimoire prompts that are more than pretty seasonal projects, but can actually expand your magickal repertoire. Let’s talk about 8 winter grimoire prompts to grow your magick!

Working With The Winds.
Do you have a relationship with the winds? In folk magick and some forms of traditional witchcraft, the winds of each compass direction have specific qualities. The winds can be courted for divination, cleansing, carrying, and receiving messages. It could be interesting to investigate the local beings, creatures and deities associated with the winds. How could you deepen your relationship with the winds? And how might you engage each other?
Warding OR Embracing Darkness.
The lack of light in the winter can be brutal. Could you create a charm: an art spell, poetic incantation or an amulet that wards off the worst effects of the encroaching darkness? Or would it be beneficial to create a charm for embracing the darkness as a path to more mystery and magick? Decide what would be most helpful to you and create a spell you can use year after year.

Banishing Spell for Winter Blues.
We could build upon the previous suggestion and create a spell to banish the winter blues. Is it a special bath? A dance? A prayer? Having a formula for banishing winter induced funk could be very useful.
Sigil Library for Winter Needs.
What are your challenges during the winter season? Why not create a helpful sigil, or a small library of sigils, to aid you? Some examples may include, a sigil for safe transportation in difficult weather, keeping power on during a storm, keeping drafts at bay, warding off winter sniffles, keeping your feet dry, protection from crazy holiday consumerism or managing to keep a pair of mittens together.
What seasonal obstacles do you and your community face? How could you use these magickal symbols in your craft?
Hibernation and Dreaming.
Do you work with or draw inspiration from your dreams? Do you have a magickal formula for inducing a helpful dream? Or a method for reentering a dream for divination or healing work? Do you have a reoccurring dream that needs to be investigated for growth or power? (I wrote a whole chapter on dream work and bringing the dreamscape into the waking world in my book RAINBOW MAGICK if you’d like to check it out.) The long nights of winter are ideal for dream work. Â

Animal Allies.
Are there animals in your bio region that do winter well? Observe these creatures. Learn about their habits, myths, folklore, and names. If it’s appropriate and safe, could you give this creature an offering? (We're talking birds and squirrels- please don’t wake up a bear.) Could you ally with this animal or practice shapeshifting into this animal in ritual for insight?
Jupiter and Saturn Influences.
Astrologically inclined art witches might wish to examine where Jupiter and Saturn are hanging out in your chart. In the northern hemisphere, Sagittarius and Capricorn the zodiacal seasons we experience at the heart of winter. Jupiter rules Sagittarius. Saturn rules Capricorn.
Jupiter placements can tell us about where to discover luck, expansion, friendships, and blessings. Saturn placements can give us clues about maturity, stability, and self-mastery. You might consider recording historical examples or creating your own seals to communicate with planetary intelligences. You may also enjoy exploring astrological remediations for difficulties you discover in your chart.

Blessing & Consecration.
If we’re lucky, winter brings a fair amount of feasting, food preparation and socializing. Could you develop a way to bless or consecrate ingredients, dishes, or treats to benefit those who consume them? Is it a simple gesture or poem or a multistep operation? Does something like this already exist in your tradition or can you create one?
What could this blessing look, feel, sound or taste like? Let your creativity run with ways you could infuse your gatherings with joy.
I hope you enjoyed these ideas for growing your magick and grimoire practice this winter. Thank you for being YOU and bringing your magick into the world, Moon Baby.
I can’t wait to see what you create.
